I MAKE A DIFFERENCE AWARD

The Smoky Valley Education Association and Smoky Valley Schools want to recognize members of the community who are making a positive impact on our students and schools. This evening, we are recognizing Mrs. Della Smith, first grade teacher at Soderstrom.

Della Smith is an AMAZING teacher. She is so dedicated and caring to her students and to our building staff. She worked many hours of her own time this year helping get our new schedule figured out. It was a BIG job. She has also been a leader for MTSS, helping anyone with questions and doing a ton of work for that too.  Della is and outstanding problem solver and does a great job analyzing and understanding student data. She is ready for any challenge!

But, that's not all Della does. She's been instrumental in figuring out what to do with the departure of one of our reading aids. She's done all the extra first grade sub plans for the sub. She's switched groups she is teaching so that the sub had the easier one. She's also been a wonderful helper to Mrs. Beigert's substitutes while she was on maternity leave. The term ROCK STAR describes Della perfectly.

Mrs. Smith does whatever it takes to help her students learn.  She cares deeply about her students and will go to any length to meet their needs.  She even stays after school working with students to help build relationships and connections to help these children succeed.  Her understanding of social emotional learning and how to connect with some of our more challenging students is above and beyond the average teacher.  Our district is very lucky to have such an AWESOME educator!
