I MAKE A DIFFERENCE AWARD

The Smoky Valley Education Association and Smoky Valley Schools recognize
members of the community who are making a positive impact on our students and
schools. This month, we would like to recognize Mrs. Bobby Decker, Smoky Valley’s
Food Service Director.
Amy Dreier, SVVCS Teacher, has nominated Bobby because of the difference she has
made in her families’ lives for the past 3 years. Amy’s son has severe allergies to many
different foods and it is sometimes difficult to coordinate lunches and have everyone on
board with him eating at school. As the head cook for the district, Mrs. Decker took the
time to sit down with Amy to figure out a plan to make sure her son could eat at school
as many times as possible. Not only does Bobby communicate with her as a mom, but
the building cooks are included on a regular basis regarding menus. The leadership in
our food service program is evident as all those who work in the kitchen are equally as
kind and willing to work with the family.
Mrs. Decker’s willingness to act in such a caring way has taken a huge weight off of
this mother’s shoulders as she works to manage her son’s food allergies. When
unusual circumstances arise, Bobby never skips a beat in making accomodations for
him. When talking with other staff across the district, it is evident that her impact
spreads far beyond just one family. The groups and organizations she works with, the
students that have varying diet needs, the staff that have requests for their classrooms,
and many others are impacted by Bobby’s kindness and communication. It is clear by
the atmosphere in our building kitchens that they have a great leader.
Bobby is an excellent example of a person in our school system that probably does not
get recognized often, but the work she does behind the scenes is so important for our
students. Thank you Mrs. Decker for your positive contribution to our Smoky Valley
schools and families!
