I Make a Difference

There are  many people who make a positive impact on our Smoky Valley students, staff and district ad each month, your Smoky Valley Education Association and USD #400 want to acknowledge those who stand out.  This month, we would like to recognize Mr. Monte Couchman for the "I Make A Difference Award".

You all get to hear Mr. Couchman monthly with updates and curriculum happenings in the district, but the role Monte plays district wide goes much further than that.

Mr. Couchman is an easy to approach leader and communicates well with all staff.  He has provided support, direction, resources, guidance and encouragement to every certified staff member throughout the district.  Monte always makes himself available to answer questions and meet with individuals or teams.  He identifies valuable resources and helps provide the appropriate training to our teachers, principals and counselors.

Monte meets regularly with the College and Career Readiness Team to help provide direction for Individual Student Plans of Study and Career Pathways.  Mr. Couchman is responsible for a multitude of State reports, desegregating data and approving district inservice each month.

He is most appreciated by the manner in which he conducts business with our staff.  Monte is professional and takes the work of "student learning" very seriously, yet he can provide guidance in a non-threatening manner in order to achieve positive change that benefits Smoky Valley students.  Mr. Couchman has also received accolades from his colleagues state-wide, as he was recently asked to chair ESSDACK's Curriculum Leaders group.

Mr. Couchman is a professional educator that has certainly earned this award, as well as the respect of all of us who are blessed to have the opportunity to work with him.

Thank you Monte.
