The Leadership of USD #400 has been closely monitoring the current COVID-19 conditions within our district and McPherson County.  We remain in RED and local cases continue to climb.  This exponential growth of incident rates is expected to continue and is considered “community spread”, which means there are no known clusters causing the increases.  We are just seeing broad transmission of the disease across the county.  Working very closely with our County Health officials, it has become clear that we must extend at-home Remote Learning for PreK-12 through the Christmas break.

The percentage positive cases in McPherson County currently stands at 42.46% and has continued to rise.  The recommendation from local officials is to follow the most responsible mode of learning to keep our students and staff safe; Remote Learning.

We are joining with many others to ask all of you to do your part so that we can safely bring our children back into the building full-time very soon.  Please take appropriate action over the holidays to help reduce the rapid rise of COVID-19 in our county and in Kansas.  Our actions can influence our ability to keep schools open to provide students with the quality of education they deserve in a safe working environment.

Please show your support for students and staff by pledging to:

Wear a mask when in public places, your workplace, and when around others outside of your immediate household contacts.

  1. Maintain physical distancing – at least 6 feet – from others outside of your immediate household.
  2. Avoid large gatherings of people.
  3. Wash your hands often or use hand sanitizer.
  4. Do not leave your home if you are sick or not feeling well.
  5. Perhaps opt for restaurant take-out instead of in-person dining.
  6. Encourage your friends and family to also participate in these risk mitigation strategies.

We will follow up with an announcement as to how we will return from break prior to January 4, 2021.

Please make sure to contact Nurse Jessica Morel to report a positive student case (785-227-4254, ext. 4444).

We hope you have a safe Holiday Season.
