UPDATE: SNOW DAY FOR STUDENTS ON JANUARY 25. CLICK HERE FOR MORE INFORMATION!

On December 28, 2020, the USD 400 Board of Education held a Special Meeting to address a proposal made by the Smoky Valley Administrative team regarding the learning model for students after the holiday break.  This approved proposal leveraged elements of remote and hybrid learning to help ease students back into the classroom and help mitigate any post-holiday COVID outbreaks.  The Smoky Valley Administrative team has closely monitored how COVID cases have affected our schools since students returned on January 4, and while there is still concern for COVID transmission, district leadership agrees that we will continue with the approved December 28 plan.

This means ALL STUDENTS PreK-12 will attend full classes beginning at the start of the second semester on this Monday, January 25.  The hybrid and remote learning models WILL NOT be in use, so all students should plan for full school days.

Smoky Valley Administrators will continue to watch the COVID situation closely and will make adjustments and recommendations as necessary.  Please continue to do your part to help keep our students, teachers, and community safe from COVID spread:

  • Wear a mask when in public places, your workplace, and when around others outside of your immediate household contacts.

  • Maintain physical distancing – at least 6 feet – from others outside of your immediate household.

  • Avoid large gatherings of people.

  • Wash your hands often or use hand sanitizer.

  • Do not leave your home if you are sick or not feeling well.

  • Perhaps opt for restaurant take-out instead of in-person dining.

  • Encourage your friends and family to also participate in these risk mitigation strategies.

Tracking infections is critical to our mitigation efforts.  Please make sure to contact Nurse Jessica Morel to report a positive student case (785-227-4254, ext. 4444).
