Welcome to Smoky Valley High School, home of the fighting Vikings.  We are committed to providing the very best education for the students and community we serve.  To do so, SVHS actively participates in the school improvement process using a nationally accredited commission called North Central Accreditation.  This commission (KNCA) provides support, resources, and guidance as we complete each of our school improvement cycles.  

 

School improvement is focused on the concept that improvement in education is based upon research:  research of best known practices for instruction, research of best known practices for assessment, and research of best known practices of data analysis.  Each cycle begins with research and data collection.  This data collection paints a picture of the school, its students, and its community to ensure a clear picture of who they are.  From this analysis, each school creates a school profile.  The school begins a 5 year cycle of data analysis, goal setting based on this data analysis, and interventions to address assessed needs.   Each year during the cycle, student and staff interventions are conducted, and data analysis is dissaggregated, a process that allows schools to examine student performance.  The school improvement process is then  “tweaked” according to these results.  A final cycle performance assessment examines and determines the overall results of the improvement process.  Throughout the process, peer review specialists from KNCA guide, review, and assess the school’s process of improvement.  Only after the school’s process has been deemed acceptable will the school be accredited.   This is a look at our journey through the school improvement process.
