Hello and welcome to the Lindsborg Middle School Information page. My Name is John Denk and I am the principal. I would like to tell you about our school, community and some of what we have to offer. Lindsborg is a town of approximately 3300 people located between Salina and McPherson near the northern edge of McPherson County in the center of Kansas. Lindsborg was founded by Swedish emigrants and is still known today as Little Sweden for the many Swedish festivals and shops in town. Lindsborg has a deep appreciation for the fine arts and has many art galleries, music performances, community plays, and folk dance performances for people to enjoy throughout the year. Lindsborg is also home to Bethany College a four-year degree institution. A recent addition to the community is the Anatoly Karpov Chess School. This is the only Karpov chess school in the nation and is the newest addition to the grandmasters chess school network around the world.

Smoky Valley Public schools, USD 400 consists of five attendance centers. Soderstrom Elementary School is a kindergarten through fourth grade attendance center located in Lindsborg. Lindsborg Middle School is a fifth

through eighth grade attendance center and Smoky Valley High School is a nine through twelve senior high, both are located in Lindsborg. Marquette Elementary School is a kindergarten through eighth grade attendance center located in Marquette, which is eight miles west of Lindsborg. New to the district starting is the 2005 – 2006 school year will be the Smoky Valley Virtual Charter School where students will be able to enroll and take courses on-line.

Lindsborg Middle School has a total enrollment of approximately 250 students. Class size runs between twenty and twenty-five students per class. Our curriculum is aligned to the Kansas State Standards and includes all of the core subject areas as well as band, strings orchestra, vocal music, art, foreign language, computer/technology, physical education, and journalism. Lindsborg Middle School students have demonstrated strong academic achievement by reaching the state standard of excellence on reading, writing and math state assessments. The LMS staff are all highly qualified instructors who do a tremendous job of preparing our students for the academic and personal opportunities they will face in the years to come. Lindsborg Middle School students are also able to choose from a variety of extra curricular activities such as: football, volleyball, basketball, tennis, track, and scholars bowl.
