How to figure your total amount of money from mowing using multiplication

Introduction:

You and two of you friends have just been hired by three different people to mow their lawns. They are too old to do it themselves so the three of you do it for them. You and your friends took this job because you really want that awsome new bike that all the other kids have. What you want to know is who will have enough money to buy the $140 bike first. Each person pays differently and each of you spend different times to mow the lawns.

The Task:

*Get your assigned money and hours per week that are in the table below.

*Get into three teams that your teacher will decide.

*Figure up who will get to $140 or above in the least amount of weeks.

The Process:

In The Classroom:

1. Split into three groups that represent the three people below.

2.Begin working with your group by multiplying the amount of money per day by the number of days per week. Then multiply by the number of weeks.

3. Have all people in your group figure it by themself first then compare.

4. If the entire group doesn't get the same answer then everyone should do it again to check.

5. See which group gets done first.

6. Group who finishes first might get a tasty treat if the teacher is willing.
