FAQ's

1. Do I need to purchase a computer for my student to attend SVVCS?

Kansas students attending the charter school on a full-time basis may use an Apple Laptop Computer for a $100 fee per year. ($50.00 is a refundable deposit when the laptop is returned in good condition.)

However, if students have their own computer they may use it.

2. Why is there no tuition charged to students living in Kansas?

Kansas school districts are compensated by the State of Kansas for each student that enrolls. Thus, our school district, USD 400, is compensated by the State of Kansas for each student that is enrolled in Smoky Valley Vitual Charter School on September 20th.

3.Do I have to have internet at home?

Yes, students must have access to a fast internet connection. It can be at home, at a family member's home, church or workplace.

4. What type of internet access do I need to have to attend SVVCS online?

In order to receive the video feed and audio feed, a broadband internet connection (cable or DSL) is required. Students cannot receive the audio feed and interactive whiteboard with a dial-up internet connection. We can provide a list of possible internet providers for you if you are interested in upgrading your internet connection. Even if DSL service is not available in your area, cable and satellite connections are available nearly everywhere.

5. Does the USD 400 internet filter actively filter the internet connection in my home?

No, the school's internet filter does not reach into your home. It only filters internet sites accessed within the district's buildings. Parents may consult with their internet provider to see what options are available for a home filter package.

6. Who can enroll at SVVCS?

Any person who has not received a diploma from a Kansas high school and is a Kansas resident is eligible to enroll. Students who are seeking to complete their diploma will find this setting a good match.
