The whitetail deer were not in the great numbers that they are today, back in 1975. There were not many deer around in Kansas because there were no foodplots providing nutrition to the deer. There was hardly any CRP grass in the state of Kansas to give the deer cover. Now their numbers have increased so dramaticaly from all these hunters planting foodplots to increase the health of their deer herd, and the success of their hunts. The CRP grass gave the deer population major advantages, it has given them cover from their predators and the weather. Trees are another reason for the rise of whitetail deer population. They also provide cover from weather. Now that the whitetail have great numbers it will not affect the population by harvesting a couple of deer. The state of Kansas has a Whitetail hunting season starting on Sept. 11-19 and ends on Jan. 1-9.
